Sometimes Simple

The last couple of weeks I’ve taken a step back from all my cyberspace busy-ness to just enjoy what’s happening in life.  I’ve still been busy, talking with churches and running my kids around and doing some writing.  But I decided to take a break from the things that were starting to nag at me, making me feel like I always needed to be doing something.  Sending tweets on Twitter.  Writing a blog post every couple of days.   Updating Facebook.  Reading the latest and greatest blog posts that I follow.  None of these are “bad” things.  They were just becoming distracting.  I wanted to engage more with my wife and kids, more with my physical surroundings.  I wanted to take a step back from “cyberspace”.  So I did.

For the last few weeks I’ve kept things simple.  And it’s been very nice!  Sometimes simple is best.  And I rediscovered that simple isn’t bad.  No one panicked because I wasn’t tweeting.  My website didn’t crash.  I didn’t lose any friends on Facebook.  And I’m pretty sure I didn’t miss too much life-changing info by not reading many blogs.

I need to re-engage some.  I need to write some blog post on Kidmin360 website.  In fact, after not posting for a couple of weeks I have a lot of thoughts spilling out of my brain so I’m excited about writing!  I’ll start tweeting a little more and I did a lot on Facebook yesterday because so many of my friends wished me a happy birthday, which was such a blessing.  Cyberspace is a good place…if it’s kept in balance.

But it’s been a nice reminder that sometimes simple is best.

So true. A live landscape beats an LCD view. Voice beats text. . .Handwritten beats typed. . . and face to face beats cyberspace! Sometimes we convince ourselves that we are staying “connected” using all this cyber-technology. And then we remember the kid in the next room who needs a hug, or the spouse downstairs longing for face-time. Balance. There’s always something around to throw it off if we allow it.
